A Family Holiday Made Even More Special: An Extended Family Photo Session at Plantation Island

A Holiday With a Deeper Meaning

Some family holidays carry a little more meaning than others.

This beautiful extended family arrived at Plantation Island Resort with a very special reason to celebrate. A year earlier, the father of four daughters was diagnosed with cancer. During that difficult time, he made a promise to his family: if he recovered, they would all go on holiday to Fiji together.

And they did.

A Promise Fulfilled

It was incredibly special to be there to document this long-awaited family holiday and capture the happiness of having everyone together again.

After everything they had been through, this wasn't simply a holiday. It was a celebration of life, family and the promise they had made to each other.

Starting Early for the Perfect Light

We started the photo session at 9:15am, just as the first ferry arrived on the island.

An early morning session is one of my favourite ways to photograph families in Fiji. The temperature is still comfortable, the beach is quieter, and the soft morning light creates beautiful, natural images before the tropical heat of the day arrives.

Paradise as Our Backdrop

Plantation Island was the perfect setting for their family photographs.

With its pristine white sand, crystal-clear turquoise water and lush tropical surroundings, there was no shortage of beautiful backdrops. From walking along the beach to playing in the water, the family could simply enjoy being together while I captured the moments naturally.

Capturing Genuine Family Connections

But what made these photographs truly special wasn't just the scenery—it was the connection between them.

Four daughters, their parents and their extended family, all sharing a holiday they had once hoped for during a very difficult chapter of their lives.

There was laughter, cuddles, playful moments and plenty of genuine joy. The photographs capture not only what their Fiji holiday looked like, but also how it felt to finally be together and enjoy this precious time as a family.

Memories That Will Last Forever

These are the photographs that go beyond simply documenting a holiday. They preserve a moment in time: the celebration of family, recovery, gratitude and making memories together.

I feel incredibly lucky to be able to photograph families during these meaningful moments and create images that they can look back on for many years to come.
